Examples of pieces I am currently working on:
This area of wasteland, on Wheelwright Street, by the side of HMP Pentonville caught my attention as I cycled past. Mixed with rubbish, the delicate structures of the wild flowers contrast with the blank prison wall. I intend to use the area as source material for a series of drawings, tracking the progress as these plants flower, go to seed and then wither with the coming of winter.
Below left, is a drawing of foliage I found in the Jardin des Tuileries in a bed containing Arbre des voyelles by Guiseppe Penone. The ground was covered in a tangle of green leaves - ivy, wild strawberries and many other species which I could not identify, as the central image shows. I have started to paint it by filling in the shadows using lakes made from blackberries. On the right is a drawing of brambles from Brockley and Ladywell cemetery, painted with the same alkali and acidic lakes of the fruits of the plant.
